A recent article in the Wall Street Journal revealed how a new laser for psoriasis cuts treatments. The treatments are quick and performed right at your dermatologists office. Typically the laser use is only for a few minutes. The cost is quite expensive at $160 a session, but most insurance companies will cover the treatment.
The excimer laser “is very effective for localized plaques and is particularly useful for palms and soles,” where topical treatments aren’t practical, says Mark Lebwohl, head of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and chairman of the medical board of the National Psoriasis Foundation. The results typically last about six months, he says, though some patients need to return earlier; others enjoy longer-lasting benefits.
